Canvas Re-do

If you saw the last post, you will remember the canvas that I painted for Maddie's nursery with the verse 1 Samuel 1:27 which says, "I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of Him."  I love this verse because I did pray for Maddie and she has been such a blessing.  Here is the canvas just in case:

What you don't know about this canvas is that I was extremely pregnant and uncomfortable while painting it.  Because of this, my perfectionist nature was a bit lacking, and I didn't care so much about touching up the little things that I would normally fix on anyone else's canvas.  So I hung it up!  Little do you know that to this day, this is my least favorite of ALL the canvases I've painted.

Fast forward to Baby girl #2 which has the same bedding that Maddie had as a baby.  My initial thought was to paint another one for the nursery, but after doing one for Maddie's big girl room (BGR), decided that I would wait to paint Peyton one for her BGR since this one is not personalized with a name.  However, I did decide that I would re-do the center, shorten the verse, and use a fancy new curlz font (new to me in that I haven't been painting it long).  So, this is what I ended up with:

Ta da...much better!!

How I Got Started

Here I am the owner of blog #2, and I can't seem to even keep up with the first one!  You may ask me why I created this page then.  Well, this one is different, and I won't be blogging everyday that's for sure.  I created this blog simply to document the canvases I paint along the way.  I love painting but this is more of a hobby than anything.  I've never taken an art class and honestly, about 3 years ago I had no idea what I was doing.  I can't really claim to know what I'm doing now, but I have fun doing it.

It all started when a good friend of mine had a baby.  Providing meals for those that just give birth in our Sunday school class is one way that we serve each other!  So, I had the opportunity to take E a meal and saw her nursery then for the first time.  She had this beautifully painted canvas with a Bible verse on it that she had purchased from her hometown.  As I left there that day I started thinking, mainly because I was supposed to attend my SIL K's shower in a few weeks, and I needed a gift!  A light bulb went off...I would attempt to paint her a canvas.

So, I gathered my supplies-canvas of 16X20 size, a pack of cheap paint brushes, and some acrylic paint. Now what?  Did I mix the paint with water (these tubes are not big and they're expensive!) or just use as is?  Seems like a lot of paint to waste so I'm pretty sure I probably googled it.  Nevertheless, I got to work and this is what I came up with...

It's not my best work looking back but it was my first try so I'll cut myself some slack.  Now I've painted about 20 canvases for friends, each containing a Bible verse or special saying.  I love the Lord and I love painting...what better way to use my talent?
